FAQ

  • How to book a trip

You can book a trip by either filling out the contact form at the bottom of the page or clicking on any of the book now buttons. We still prefer the old-fashioned phone call, and we can chat and pick a day and area that works for you. We usually fish in places without cell signal and i will return calls in the evenings after i get out of the forest.

  • What do i bring? where do we meet?

Your guide will reach out to you a few days before the trip to go over the finer details involved. We will agree on a location convenient for you that is usually pretty close to the body of water we plan to fish. You're welcome to fish with your own gear, but we provide all rods, waders, boots, tippet, and flies for guided trips. We recommend bringing polarized sunglasses for not only seeing fish but protecting your eyes from flies whizzing through the air and seeing the bottom of the river more clearly for safer wading.

  • Do i need a license?

Yes, you will need a North Carolina fishing license and you can get one at. https://license.gooutdoorsnorthcarolina.com/Licensing/CustomerLookup.aspx or by calling 1-888-248-6834

  • Do I tip my guide at the end of a trip?

This is always a somewhat touchy and sometimes awkward subject to discuss, so i’ll just simply ask, did your guide meet your expectations? Did you learn some things about fly fishing and have fun while doing so? Did your guide communicate well beforehand and follow through with the plan set for the day as expected and then some? let him know you appreciate him. Tipping is customary among fishing guides and is greatly appreciated.

  • Do you fish in the rain?

We fish rain or shine. A little Rain will likely make the fish more cooperative and is usually a very good time to go. If a thunderstorm or too much rain makes the river so high that wading is unsafe, you will be contacted by your guide to either cancel or reschedule.

  • do you always bring a dog on guide trips?

yes. she is an Australian cattle dog (Blue Heeler) that is so trained, you’ll most likely forget that she’s behind you while fishing. Her fishing resume will challenge the most seasoned of fishing dogs. Whether it be a flats boat in the marsh, or a drift boat in a rapid, she has more days on the water than most of the fish swimming in it. if you have animal allergies or your one of those that just doesn’t like a dogs company while on the water, please let your guide know beforehand.

  • do you require a deposit to book a guide trip?

I went back and forth with whether or not to do this. Here lately, it seems some folks don’t like to wake up super early in the summertime. So the answer now is yes. we require a $100 non-refundable deposit to book a trip. If your guide cancels or suggest we reschedule due to bad/ dangerous weather, then your deposit can be moved to a new date or refunded to you.
